I design and analyze organizational information systems and the policies for their development. I frequently work with questions of storing and distributing multimedia information, including database-driven website projects, audiovisual, and monitoring systems. As a consultant, I analyze organizational practices and goals using interviews, exploration, and a paper trail. In discussion I am a skilled listener and frank about getting to the bottom of things. Maintainability and methodological rigor are for me paramount concerns; formal documentation of implementation plans and best practices are a specialty. I have a history of guiding software and publishing projects both in industry and academia as a critical, analytical designer. My degrees are from UC Berkeley and Johns Hopkins. References are available upon request. Those interested in my services should write me with a description of their needs.
My four grandparents were born in different cities in this country, of different national backgrounds. My father's side tends to be interested in function, analysis and policy; my mother's is more grounded in aesthetics, creativity, and socialization. Unifying these heritages is important for me and I tend to describe myself as Californian when abroad. This is my fourth web site. I wrote the text (prose, XML), created the images (by hand, camera, GIMP), implemented the programs (bash, JavaScript, PHP, Perl, XSLT), designed the presentation (XHTML, CSS, PDF), and published it all (HTTP). I retain copyright for my work but may be receptive to requests for reuse. My web host is NearlyFreeSpeech.Net; thanks to my friend Paul Hoffman for DNS and POP3 service. It's challenging to keep the site working well on all platforms. If you experience a problem using it, I would appreciate a note.
